It’s A Carnival!
There are just two days to go before the streets of the Mother City come to a standstill as the annual Cape Town Carnival takes place on Saturday 18 March 2017.
This year, we are going with the flow! Surrounded by the Atlantic and Indian oceans, the carnival takes us on an oceanic adventure. Themed AMAZA ~ Ocean Odyssey, we delve into the mystery of the waters. From the under-water mysteries, deep-sea treasures and ocean life, we are celebrating it all! CEO of the Carnival, Jay Douwes emphasised the importance of the Carnival to the city of Cape Town. “What’s in the parade is equal to what’s outside the parade.” The #OceanOdyssey theme capitalises on what’s above and under the water.
As an annual celebration of South Africa’s diversity and rich creativity, the carnival is a unification of different communities coming together. M-Net has partnered with the Cape Town Carnival to help celebrate the multicultural landscape of our country. With over 50 different community groups participating in the event, the festival will help boost the tourism industry of the Western Cape.
As much as we enjoy seeing our favourite acts on the screens, some of the stars will be a part of the Carnival.
From 3-6pm, carnival-goers will get their moment of the magic while one lucky M-Net fan will walk away with a trip to Thailand. Fans of the Mzansi Magic show Idols SA will sing along with Thami (runner-up of Season 12). There is lots of fun for the kiddies as well. Their favourite characters from kykNETtv, Tjiff and Tjaff, will be there as well! All this and so much more.
This year’s Magic In Motion interns will be on hand at the Carnival to capture every moment of the parade and festivities. Fans can look forward to seeing the story of the Carnival , as shot by the interns, on their favourite M-Net channels.
We got a taste of the magic that will be taking the Fan Walk by storm. Hosted by idols SA host ProVerb, international sensation Oshri got us on our feet with his rendition of the Cape Town Carnival theme song. He was accompanied by a few of the carnival performers and what a treat that was. Dancers from the Rio Carnival delighted the MultiChoice and DStv staff. From Brazil to Mzansi, the dancers showed off the extravagant costumes and out-of-this-world dance moves they are famous for.
The Cape Town Carnival promises to be an adventurous display of the endless possibilities of the ocean. An amazing Ocean Odyssey awaits!
