We celebrate our 30th birthday in October 2016, a significant milestone on a remarkable journey. Three decades after inviting South African subscribers to “own the silver screen – at home”, we now bring the very best in television entertainment to people in nearly 50 countries across Africa.
From the very beginning, M-Net was committed to investing in homegrown entertainment, launching this aspect of our business in 1988 with the first broadcast of Carte Blanche and several other shows. Thirty years later, we offer a slate of homegrown channels where the authentic stories of our diverse and widespread viewers are told.
As part of our 30th birthday celebrations, we have created a pop-up channel, M-Net Movies Blockparty on DStv 109. Running for the whole of October, the channel will play everyone’s favourite comedy movies and the latest comedy shows and also hand the mic over to the world’s best stand-up comedians. In addition, a specially produced TV special will be broadcast on several channels in November – showcasing M-Net’s history and evolution as well as our role in developing the African film and television industry and positively changing the lives of many people.
