M-Net’s Magic In Motion Academy Continues To Empower As Class of 2017 Graduates.
M-Net’s Magic in Motion Academy has once again successfully upskilled 13 film and television graduates with the knowledge and experience they require to kickstart their professional working lives at a special gala ceremony held at MultiChoice City in Johannesburg, the Class of 2017 were celebrated for their achievements over the past year. The event marks the fourth such milestone for the Academy which was launched in 2014 and has consistently delivered on its principal aim to ensure the transformation of the video-entertainment industry in South Africa.
Notable speakers at the event included Special Adviser to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Special Adviser Florence Masebe, newly appointed Acting M-Net CEO Nkateko Mabaso as well as Academy Director Bobby Heaney.
For Mabaso, M-Net’s Magic in Motion Corporate Social Investment is among the company’s most critical focuses given its long-term objective. “The themes of creativity, vision, art and entrepreneurship are central to the DNA of our business. Our legacy across Africa has been one of innovation and investment, and in contributing to the development of young talent, we are insuring that we remain a market leader who is conscious of their responsibilities in developing our sector.”
Meanwhile overseeing the proceedings was television star Thembisa Mdoda of Unmarried, Dancing with the Stars and Our Perfect Wedding fame. Guests at the gathering comprised proud family members in addition to management executives from a variety of production houses such as Clive Morris Productions, Rapid Blue, Afrokaans, Red Pepper Studios, The Bomb and Don’t Look Down.
Along with the country’s tertiary institutions who have instilled the interns with a robust academic framework on which to build, these production partners have been instrumental in ensuring that the Magic in Motion Academy Class of 2017 were exposed to all facets of the production process by ensuring their inclusion on a variety of sets such as Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, Isibaya and others.
The Class of 2017 were encouraged to pursue their storytelling ambitions with clear and dedicated purpose understanding that it is their ability to write, direct, film and edit great content that their most vital asset as it contributes to SA’s fast growing local content pipe-line. This year’s Academy graduates have already produced four titles Umhlanga, Romeo and Romeo, Two Funerals One Dead Man and Matric which were broadcast on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
